Skin fungus
Approximately 90% of fungal skin infections are caused by ‘dermatophytes’, which are parasitic fungi affecting the skin, hair, or nails.Fungi that have developed to live on animals can also infect us, and will usually cause much more inflammation and redness because our immune system sees them as a foreign invasion and goes into attack.
Basic symptoms of the skin fungus:
- red, dry and round shape rush;
- mild itch and irritation;
- localised pain and uncomfort;
- hair loss.
Candidiasis is best known for having it`s hand in yeast infections; however, it can also affect other mucous membranes as well as nails and skin. The appearance of this particular skin fungus looks similar to that of eczema, which may be purple and flakey. It also tends to itch, and blisters may form around the most irritated areas.
Skin fungus treatment should begin as soon as possible.The longer you wait, the worse the condition will become, and the more difficult to treat.
Prevention:
- keep your skin thoroughly clean;
- go barefoot;
- use antiperspirant and powders to keep dry;
- try to avoid public swimming pools and unnecessary contact with people you do not know well.
