Antifungus
Most people are known about infections and diseases caused by bacteria and viruses, but many are unaware that there is a whole set of disorders related to infections caused by fungi. Many of these infections affect the skin.
Superficial fungus is localised in the top layers of the skin and mucous membranes, the hair, and the nails. Deep fungal infection affects deeper layers of skin and hair follicles and can spread by the blood in the internal organs. In immuno-deficient patients, besides the diseases mentioned above, other fungal diseases like systemic candidiasis, aspergillosis, cryptococcosis and other opportunistic diseases can occur.
There are a number of reasons that can make you more susceptible to a fungal infection. If you have taken a course of antibiotics or taken oral steroids, you are more likely to contract an infection. Also, if you have diabetes or cancer, or if HIV has weakened your immune system, then a fungal infection is not uncommon. Some fungi reproduce through tiny spores in the air. You can inhale the spores or they can land on you. As a result, fungal infections often start in the lungs or on the skin. Neonates are especially susceptible to fungal infections.
Some types of fungi are normally present on body surfaces or in the intestine. Although normally harmless, these fungi sometimes cause localized infections of the skin, nails or genitals.
Since many fungal infections develop slowly, months or years before people can go to the doctor. But in people with a weakened immune system, fungal infections can be very aggressive, rapidly spreading to other organs and often leads to death.
